Western Australia

Western Australia is by far the largest state in Australia, covering one-third of this massive continent. It retains a sense of isolation from the more populated east coast, and almost all the two million inhabitants live in and around Perth, the pretty and youthful capital. Beyond the picturesque Margaret River vineyards and the tall timber forests of the Southwest, you’ll find glorious white-sand beaches around Albany and Esperance, many deserted but for a few lucky kangaroos. The west coast boasts relaxed beach resorts, stunning coral reef, and the dolphins of Monkey Mia, whilst the incomprehensible vastness of the Outback rewards the visitor with stunning national parks and The Kimberley, Australia’s last frontier.

Top Tips
- Due to its size and the wealth of things to do consider Western Australia as a destinatino in itself. Starting in Perth you can easily spend time exploring south to the Margaret River famed for its excellent wines or head north to the sandy beaches and tropical climate of Broome. Whichever you choose (or combime the lot!), one visit to Western Australia will never be enough.
- Attractively set on the banks of the Swan River, Perth is one of the most welcoming cities in Australia. Easy to explore with plenty to see and do. Don't miss Kings Park with its beautiful flowers in springtime.
- Don't miss the dolphins at Monkey Mia, this rare experience is one of the most popular things to do in Western Australia. To be able to get close to genuinely wild dolphins is quite extraordinary
- Enkoy a few quiet days relaxation on the soft sandy beaches of Broome, it's the perfect antidote to the stresses and strains of everyday life. Once your batteries are recharged you are well placed for all sorts of adventures, explore the rugged wilderness of the Kimberly independently or as part of an organised tour.
- Don't miss Ningaloo Reef, one of the most accessible and pristine in the world. From April to July swim with the world's biggest fish, the whale shark. You'll be amazed at the kaleidoscope of colours below the water. This is a paradise for snorkelling and diving but if you prefer there are also glass bottom boats.
