From the vineyards of Margaret River and the spring wildflower displays to the vast clear skies and theatrical landscapes of the outback, this itinerary gives you a chance to indulge in the South West’s warm and welcoming Mediterranean climate. We include a visit to the internationally acclaimed Margaret River Wine Region in the South West region, including the stunning beaches of the Albany coast, through to the vast landscapes of the outback, as we board one the Indian Pacific train journey from Perth to Sydney.

Day 1 - Perth

Framed by wonderful coastline to the west & rolling hills to the east, Perth is a vibrant, friendly city, situated between the banks of the Swan River & the natural bush land of Kings Park. Perth is renowned for its warm, sunny climate, pristine coastline & relaxed lifestyle.

On arrival pick up your rental car from Perth airport before transferring to your accommodation for the next two nights at the All Seasons Perth, located in the heart of Northbridge. Northbridge offers an eclectic mix of cafes & restaurants, pubs & nightclubs, and the hotel is only a few minute’s walk from the city centre. This boutique property is known locally
as the hidden treasure of Northbridge due to its reputation for great customer service and value for money. There are many interesting galleries and boutiques within walking distance.

Day 2 - Perth

Free day to explore Perth. You may like to explore the popular historic port city of Fremantle which lies just south of Perth, where you’ll find markets, entertainment & plenty of alfresco style cafes & restaurants, or perhaps cruise the Swan River past parks and skyscrapers to 40 vineyards in the Swan Valley or the Perth Zoo.

Alternatively you could visit Rottnest Island, where you can explore history, bike ride to secret beaches and kayak to secluded bays. Feast on seafood and soak up the carnival atmosphere in historic Fremantle. Discover the lookouts, landscaped gardens and Aboriginal heritage of huge Kings Park. Swim, surf, fish, windsurf and sail on clean and uncrowded beaches such as Cottlesloe or Scarborough. Then skip between the sunny boardwalks, beaches and marinas of the Sunset Coast.

Day 3 - Perth to Margaret River

Western Australia's famous Margaret River Wine Region combines secluded beaches, old growth forests and wineries to create a truly unique holiday experience. This quaint surfie town has evolved into a gourmet traveller's delight, producing wines from over 60 wineries, delicious cheeses, chocolate, olive oil and truffles throughout the region. And it's just a three-and-a-half hour drive south of Perth.

Tonight your accommodation is at the Australis Margaret River, situated on 5 acres of manicured gardens and native bushland. This family owned property is only 1.2 kms from the town of Margaret River and 8 kms to the beach. Wineries, caves, coastline, beaches and forests are all within a few minutes drive.

Day 4 - Margaret River to Albany

Experience the rugged southern coastline on your drive to Albany where beautiful sandy beaches are interrupted by rocky
outcrops and cliffs. Whale watching cruises operate from Albany - June to October. Albany is the location of Western Australia's first European settlement and has a rich history, including its part in the ANZAC ledged. The beauty of Albany's harbour and the Albany coast line is not to be missed.

Day 5 - Albany to Hyden

Hyden is situated 347 kilometres north of Albany. More than 130,000 tourists visit the town every year on their way to the famous Wave Rock. Wave Rock is just four kilometres east of Hyden on a nature reserve of some 160 hectares. The Rock is a granite cliff, 15 metres high and 110 long, shaped remarkably like a huge wave. Geologists believe the original granite formation has been sculptured and coloured by weather, water and chemical erosion over 2.7 billion years to take on its wave like character.

Day 6 - Hyden to Perth

Spend the day exploring Hyden and the Wave Rock attractions before returning to Perth through Kondinin 59km to the
West, Kulin 23km further west and home of the Tin Horse Highway, and 62km to the Dog in a Ute town, Corrigin, and back
to Perth.

You’ll experience the many Natural Wonders of the Wheatbelt. Curtains of bark and the sleek shining trunks of stately salmon gum and gimlet greet visitors to the woodlands of the Wheatbelt in autumn (March to May). Carpets of pink and yellow everlastings, roadside verges festooned in wattle and a great diversity of flowering shrubs delight the visitor in winter and spring (July to October).

Day 7 - Depart Perth on the Indian Pacific

There’s no better way to see & feel the magic of the vast Australian continent than aboard the mighty Indian Pacific – one of the world’s greatest train journeys. The transcontinental journey from Perth to Sydney covers 4,352 km’s & you’ll overnight aboard the train for three nights. The great train offers optional off-train sightseeing tours at scheduled stops at Broken Hill, Adelaide & gold rich Kalgoorlie. A remote outpost on the Nullarbor Plain called Cook (population 2) presents a further opportunity to stretch your legs.

Indian Pacific’s journey is one of contrasting landscapes. It highlights the best Australia has to offer, and gives travellers an appreciation of just how vast, diverse & spectacular Australia is.

The train departs Perth on Sunday’s & Wednesday’s at 11.55am.

Day 10 - Arrive Sydney

Depending on your departure day from Perth, you will arrive in Sydney at 10.15am on either Wednesday or Saturday.

Sydney is a year-round destination, with warm summers and cool winters. Vibrant, dazzling & full of life, Sydney is an incredible city built around one of the world’s most incredible harbours. As Australia’s oldest city, Sydney has a laid back, outdoor lifestyle. All of its attractions lie within easy reach of the city centre, which is dominated by the harbour. Discover Sydney’s colourful convict history in the harbour side quarter where it all began. Just five minutes from Circular Quay, in the historic Rocks area you can wander the weekend markets or climb the span of the Harbour Bridge.
