11 Day Self-drive Tour of Tasmania (from £939 per person)
Tasmania's lush landscapes, specatular coastlines, stunning lakes and pristine wilderness area's all contribute to Tasmania's popularity as a holiday destination. Non-stop flights operate from Melbourne and Sydney and flights from Adelaide & Brisbane travel via Sydney or Melbourne into Hobart departing almost daily. This is a suggested itinerary only however if you wish to tailormake your own itinerary, please don't hesitate to contact us. Day 1:Hobart - check into the luxurious Henry Jones Art Hotel for 2 nights (Australia's 1st and only 'Art' Hotel located on the edge of Hobart's historic waterfront). Day 2:Hobart - take time to explore the area - perhaps with a visit to vineyards along the Southern Tasmanian Wine Route & discover the perfectly preserved Georgian village of Richmond. If your stay includes a Saturday, Salamanca Market is a must-see. Day 3 & 4:Strahan Village (2 nights) - travel through a World Heritage area, perhaps stopping at Lake St Clair for a short lakeside walk then continue to the picturesque West Coast port of Strahan. This quaint historic fishing village is the perfect base for exploring Tasmania's wilderness, with the Gordon River Cruise & West Coast Wilderness Railway right at your doorstep. Day 5 & 6:Cradle Mountain Wilderness Lodge (2 nights) - set in a secluded bush setting on the edge of Lake St Clair National Park.
Day 7:Launceston - take a leisurely drive to reach Launceston, northern Tasmania's gracious city. Discover Launceston's many attractions - the exciting new Inveresk Cultural Precinct, the city's beautiful parks and gardens and the Cataract Gorge Reserve. Overnight at the Country Club. Day 8 & 9:Freycinet Lodge (2 nights) - set in a spectacular waterfront location just inside Freycinet National Park - a superb base for exploring the Freycinet Peninsula. Day 10:Hobart - overnight at the Henry Jones Art Hotel. Price includes 11 days inclusive car hire & accommodation as listed based on two people sharing. Located on Hobart's waterfront. 26th Dec 2009 - 1st January 2010 - Sydney to Hobart Yacht RaceRegarded as one of the world's greatest and most gruelling ocean racing classics, the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race begins in Sydney Harbour on Boxing Day and finishes in the Derwent River off Battery Point in Hobart. It is a 630 nautical mile race southwards in the Tasman Sea to Tasman Island, across Storm Bay to the finish. The leaders in the race arrive in Hobart in time for New Year's Eve festivities. 28th Dec 2009 - 3rd January 2010 - Taste of TasmaniaThe Taste is a food and beverage event showcasing Tasmania's much celebrated food and wine. One of Australia's most popular and successful food and wine events held at Hobart's historic waterfront.
